This retreat is about connecting with our authentic selves to visualize and create whatever will bring more joy, love, wisdom, and laughter into your life. Whatever you want to do, whatever you need to undo, there is time to make the second half of life, the best half. This weekend is just the beginning.

Land of Medicine Buddha provides classes and space for group and personal retreats on forested property in the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains, just a mile and a half from Soquel Village, California.


Land of Medicine Buddha is a unique and sacred facility that provides Tibetan Buddhist teachings, retreats, healing, and space for others to bring their workshops. Everyone is welcome; you don’t need to be Buddhist to come for a visit. We are delighted to have use of this facility for our Ignited Women’s Weekend Retreat. The main campus lodging provides 19 clean, comfortable guest rooms. Options include single, double, and shared accommodations in single or queen size beds. All rooms include a private bathroom with shower; two rooms include bathtubs. Towel and linen service is provided. There is also a walk-in campground. In the interest of providing a quiet, relaxing experience while staying at Land of Medicine Buddha, our rooms do not include televisions, telephones, clocks, or internet access. A centrally-located payphone enables guests to use the telephone should the need arise. Wireless internet access is available in some rooms upon request.​



All meals are vegetarian and feature seasonal local produce and mostly organic ingredients. Inspired by diverse global cuisines, the chefs prepare meals that offer guests a gratifying and wholesome dining experience. The dining room is open to overnight guests 24 hours a day and includes indoor and outdoor spaces for meals. Filtered drinking water, hot water, tea, coffee and fresh fruit are always available. A refrigerator and microwave are also available for guests to use.



The pool area includes: a large sunning area, two massage rooms, a full-sized, spring-water filled swimming pool, a sauna with outdoor showers, and areas for quiet enjoyment.

Certified massage therapists offer a variety of healing modalities for individuals or couples. Sacred hiking trails, ponds, and stupas.

Meet Your Hosts

Beth Nelson

Beth is an inspiration and leader for women who are ready to awaken into the fullest version of themselves at midlife and leave a meaningful impact on the world. As a Life Purpose Clarity Coach, isolated and disengaged women in their 50s and 60s hire her to build the necessary confidence to reinvent themselves and create a life full of passion, purpose and authenticity. Her workshops, retreats, private coaching and on-line programs have helped hundreds of women to uncover their unconscious beliefs and make lasting change to feel more vital and engaged in midlife and beyond.

Beth created Ignited Women in 2016 to unleash the greatly under-utilized wisdom of midlife women into the world and foster a cultural shift in how they are seen and valued. As a yoga instructor, she has guided hundreds of women to a deeper quality of presence through movement and stillness.  She is a licensed Desire Map and Firestarter Facilitator and a 500-hour certified yoga teacher.

Jan Fishler

Jan is an author, speaker and writing coach. Most recently she co-authored Don’t Stop Now: Making the Most of the Rest of Your Life, a book for women of a “certain age” who want to see how far they’ve come, identify work that still needs to be done, and create a plan for the future. Currently, Jan speaks to various women’s groups and teaches online writing classes.  


Previously, Jan wrote and informational and motivational videos. In addition to writing 100+ corporate scripts, Jan produced The Path to Publication DVD series featuring advice from such well-known authors as Amy Tan, Anne Lamott, Janet Fitch, and Mark Childress. In 2010 she self-published an adoption memoir, Searching for Jane, Finding Myself (An Adoption Memoir), Jan has written articles on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder for Vietnow National Magazine, and articles on alternative health for The Union newspaper. Jan has a B.S. in English Literature/Creative and an M.S. in Educational Technology/Instructional Design
